Cargo Handling Equipment Replacement and Retrofit Project

EPA is providing $850,000 funding to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and its partners to retrofit 84 pieces of cargo handling equipment at the Puget Sound Ports of Tacoma and Seattle with a combination of diesel particulate filters or partial flow filters, and crankcase ventilation filters. This project will also replace off-highway trucks ahead of their planned retirement with new trucks equipped with on-road engines. Finally, it will install diesel oxidation catalysts on two top loaders. The project will be implemented with $318,000 in leveraged funds. The project will reduce the emissions of diesel particulate matter from cargo handling equipment and off-highway trucks at the Puget Sound ports by nearly 7 tons per year.
