South Coast Air Quality Management District Replace 130 Trucks with LNG around the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach

Location: California: Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach

Under the 2008 Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA), nearly $5 mission was awarded in an Earmark grant to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). The SCAQMD has been funded $4,922,000 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), through a Congressional Earmark, to replace 130 heavy-duty diesel drayage trucks operating in and around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. These diesel trucks will be replaced with new liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks that are certified by the California Air Resources Board and EPA to meet EPA’s 2010 emission standards for heavy-duty engines. The SCAQMD will help fund this program from Proposition 1B Funds and the Clean Fuels Fund. Remaining funds will be borne by California Cartage Company, the contract recipient. This project is expected to be completed by September 2010.
